A fill-in cover letter template for a network engineer position, built from CVPosh's own job data. It is not a real person's letter and makes no promise about interviews. Replace the placeholders with your real experience.
Use this template as your starting point. Replace everything in [brackets] with your own information:
The opening of your network engineer cover letter must grab attention immediately. Avoid generic openers like “I am applying for...”
Strong opening (placeholder numbers):
“After leading a team that grew network infrastructure output by [X%] at [Company], I was excited to see [Company Name]'s opening for a Network Engineer. Your focus on [specific company initiative] aligns with the work I've been doing for the past [X years].”
Weak opening to avoid:
“I am writing to apply for the Network Engineer position I saw posted on your website. I believe I am a strong candidate...”
Demonstrate your command of key skills like Cisco, BGP/OSPF, TCP/IP. Use specific examples rather than vague claims. Hiring managers for network engineer roles want evidence, not assertions.
Where you have real numbers, use them. Instead of “improved performance”, say by how much, but never invent a figure.
Problem-solving and analytical thinking are often listed for technology roles in our job data. Show these through brief stories, not just adjective lists.
Your closing paragraph should do three things: reiterate your fit, show enthusiasm, and make a specific ask.
Reference specific technologies from the job description to show technical alignment.
Mention open-source contributions, side projects, or GitHub portfolio.
Quantify technical achievements where you have real numbers.
Show you understand the product and business, not just the tech stack.
Keep it concise — tech hiring managers value efficiency.
