Administrative
A fill-in cover letter template for a receptionist position, built from CVPosh's own job data. It is not a real person's letter and makes no promise about interviews. Replace the placeholders with your real experience.
Use this template as your starting point. Replace everything in [brackets] with your own information:
The opening of your receptionist cover letter must grab attention immediately. Avoid generic openers like “I am applying for...”
Strong opening (placeholder numbers):
“After leading a team that grew front desk output by [X%] at [Company], I was excited to see [Company Name]'s opening for a Receptionist. Your focus on [specific company initiative] aligns with the work I've been doing for the past [X years].”
Weak opening to avoid:
“I am writing to apply for the Receptionist position I saw posted on your website. I believe I am a strong candidate...”
Demonstrate your command of key skills like Phone systems, Scheduling software, Microsoft Office. Use specific examples rather than vague claims. Hiring managers for receptionist roles want evidence, not assertions.
Where you have real numbers, use them. Instead of “improved performance”, say by how much, but never invent a figure.
Communication and professionalism are often listed for administrative roles in our job data. Show these through brief stories, not just adjective lists.
Your closing paragraph should do three things: reiterate your fit, show enthusiasm, and make a specific ask.
Emphasize organizational skills and process improvements made.
Highlight software proficiency relevant to the role.
Show experience supporting senior leadership or complex environments.
Demonstrate discretion and handling of confidential information.
Quantify the scale of support provided (team size, budget, etc.).
